In Love With The Amazon Echo Dot

In Love With The Amazon Echo Dot

I agree that the technology is still in its infancy, and there are still some problems with infrastructure and app store, BUT Amazon delivers a small and smart product that serves as an easy entry into the future voice-dominated world. It is still early and more a gimmick instead of anything real, but to be able to play music, radio, listen to audio books, ordering FMCGs, dim your light and wake you up or simply remember your grocery list, Alexa will develop fast in the next 18 months.

How To Explain Digitalization?

How To Explain Digitalization?

Currently, everyone is caught up in this mega trend called "Digitalization." Every company started initiatives around this topic; they began to put out prototypes of new products, offering new services or simply renamed items on their portfolio to fit this new hype. However, what is digitalization?

I recently got ask, how would you explain digitalization to someone? What is it is core ingredient and why are we doing this?

If you ask me, I will try to make this sound as simple as possible. A tangible statement that describes such a virtual process in human history. My definition of digitalization is this:

Apps Aggressively Pushing Us To Become Reality Stars With Every New Update

Apps Aggressively Pushing Us To Become Reality Stars With Every New Update

The most recent case of this is the race for the attention of youngsters between 12 - 25 who just love to broadcast every meal and walk to the dentist instantly to their peers and create a personal reality show. The app of the minute is Snapchat. Even though Mark Zuckerberg tried to buy Snapchat a few years back for a few billion dollars, the app remained autarch and grew quickly. Since Facebook cannot own Snapchat, they will simply try to render them replaceable.

Kickstart Your 2017 With The 3-L-Rule

Kickstart Your 2017 With The 3-L-Rule

I want to tackle the new year with a similar mindset but keep some of those things I learned and picked up in 2016. Since this might be interesting to some of you, I wanted to share these things. I documented most of them in the last 50+ posts I wrote this year (another habit which I will continue), so this is just a summary of the most important ones that are here to stay.

Education - Time To Wake Up!

Education - Time To Wake Up!

It all depends on how you want to design your life, a freedom that was totally alien just a few decades earlier. What nobody talks about is that the lack of meta-skills and the rise of decision-anxiety are the price we pay for this freedom.

Do we live in a time that is solemnly focused on hedonism? The maximisation of our happiness? Don't get me wrong, I don't complain, being a human is the best. But where are we going as a society? Can I live every day as it would be my last for 90+ years?

Gamescom 2016 - Is Your Living Room Ready For VR?

Gamescom 2016 - Is Your Living Room Ready For VR?

Gamescom 2016 is over and the last few days were packed with new and exciting technology. First and foremost, Virtual Reality. Last year was just a sneak peak of what was to come. We still have to reach mass market with VR and by the end of this year and Sony's Playstation VR entry, I'm confident the market will get there. If you haven't tried out VR yet, just go get your hands on one of those Google cardboards https://vr.google.com/cardboard/ it's easy, it's cheap and you'll get the idea.

Give Yourself An Edge, Start Listening

Give Yourself An Edge, Start Listening

You might know the feeling that when you enter a room and you get a sense of it or you really know when your best friend is sad although she might not be showing it. That is your EQ telling you something is wrong with how things seem to be and how you percieve them. This is important, because it gives you context and can serve as a conversation starter.

That is the reason why I want to share some examples on how listening can benefit your daily life on this Monday.

The Isle Of Tech-Giants

The Isle Of Tech-Giants

Imagine this: You wake up, you know that you are not at home but you feel close to it. You take your first step out of the house, breathe in the air and take a look around. Everything seems familiar but also new at the same time. There are buildings you've seen before, roads you've taken before but something is different. Is it yourself or the city that changed?

Stop Counting The Days, Be Patient.

Stop Counting The Days, Be Patient.

It doesn't matter if we are talking about business development, learning new skills or simply training your body or mind. Everything takes time and success is not achieved over night, even though mass media would like us to believe that.

Trust me, I love to say that everything is possible and encourage myself and others to try out everything and not to be afraid of consequences, the future or anything else.

It always comes down to what you want out of it. Becoming a best-selling author without ever writing a book is very(!) hard.

Why I'm Excited For Playstation VR

Why I'm Excited For Playstation VR

Did you ever put on VR glasses before? The thing that really suprises you is how close everything is and how your brain somehow can and can't handle it. So in regards to games this is obviously a big selling point, just think about all those years we've spent on immersive ego-perspective games, be it a shooter or action rpg. Put on the VR machine, some nice headphones and you will find yourself in a completely different world. A whole new era of escapism is awaiting us.

How To Make Time?

How To Make Time?

Not everything needs to be perfect, but by pushing yourself into doing stuff, you'll get the luxury of finally realising what your strenghts are and how you might achieve perfection, at least to a degree. Pareto's Law (20/80) was never more relevant in our modern world, where we are over-stimulated with information...

On How To Be An Autodidact - 5 Cornerstones

On How To Be An Autodidact - 5 Cornerstones

Learning something new and trying to teach it yourself takes time and effort, it's a marathon and not a sprint. Usually I set a date of 10 days in a row to test my determination and applicability in my daily routines. If something does not fit in or simply lost my interest in that period, I won't continue. If I can keep it, I'll integrate it. Don't get me wrong, when you want something badly but stop after three days, that doesn't mean you should give up, but sometimes there are things that you'd like to accomplish but somehow it just won't land or you are just not ready for it. So determination in itself is the test.

Why Vulnerability Is The Key To Real Strength

Why Vulnerability Is The Key To Real Strength

The one fact that does have an impact on yourself and on your social circle, is that people will definitely sympathise with you, if you are vulnerable. Appearing to be Superman only brings you this far. By showing your human site, you can win massively and have more impact on your surroundings. One of the things I value most is honesty. By being honest you build trust and relationships. Being grateful for that and communicating your feelings when someone disappoints you or vice versa, only strengthens the bond - otherwise the relationship might not be as strong as you thought it was.

5 Life Hacks On How To Make 2016 Your Year

5 Life Hacks On How To Make 2016 Your Year

In December I wrote about my opinion on new year's resolutions and I stand by it. That also means, that to trigger action, you need motivation and a goal. Your set goals shouldn't be all about "this year I will be..." or "in the next 12 months....". It's important to have smart successes on the way, so think about goals within closer range "by the end of January I want to have done...", "in my first week of work in 2016 I want to accomplish...". Setting short term goals will keep you motivated and give you a chance of early milestones that will help setting you on the right track for 2016.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone, Regularly!

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone, Regularly!

I was always more intersted in the future than in the past. Although history lessons can give us some valuable advice on how things worked out, but all those events are fixed in time and will probably never happen again, at least that's not likely.

With that in mind, what would you say is your personal pitch as a human, an employee or a friend? Does you list only contain things from the past or do you value your aspirations in the future as well or even more?
